Rev. Dr Judy Chung, director of Mission at the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, visited the World Council of Churches (WCC) on 30 June. 

As the 62nd Human Rights Council drew to a close on 8 July, the World Council of Churches (WCC) looked back on its involvement in advocating for climate justice, health equity, and other human rights across the globe.

The Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians condemned the violence perpetrated against foreign nationals in South Africa. The circle also expressed deep concern for the profound mental, psychological, and physical suffering endured by those affected.

Sara Speicher is the deputy general secretary of the World Association for Christian Communication and an advisor to the World Council of Churches (WCC) Faith and Science Working Group. She also works for the WCC with a focus on strategic advocacy communication in the field of digital justice and artificial intelligence. She reflects on the first Global Dialogue on AI Governance held in Geneva 6-7 July.

Rev. Dr Jessie Ini Fubara-Manuel, a gender justice and disability advocate, researcher, and author of “Navigating Disability, HIV, Relationships and Abuse for Christian Women in Nigeria: A Focused Study on Port Harcourt,” took time to reflect on why preventing sexual abuse is everyone’s responsibility. 

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay will lead an ecumenical solidarity delegation to the Zimbabwe Council of Churches General Assembly, which is convening 22-24 July under the theme “Breaking Walls: Discerning the Signs of the Times.”

Rev. Dr Deborah Niederer Saxon, an educator and pastor in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and her husband, John Saxon, visited the World Council of Churches (WCC), staying at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey. 

Rev. Kevin Keegan is the Asia-Pacific regional director for MegaVoice, which specializes in distributing solar-powered audio Bibles to remote and marginalized communities.

Rev. Dr Susan Durber, World Council of Churches president from Europe, has been elected moderator of United Reformed Church General Assembly from July 2027 to July 2028.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay expressed grave concern about the developments of violence in South Africa targeting migrants from other African countries.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) participated in the Ninth Annual Conference of the European Academy of Religion (EuARe), held in Rome, Italy, from 30 June to 3 July.

The Peace and Security Working Group of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (CCIA) will present, on 16 July, a webinar on “The relevance of international law in today's world: untangling the situation in Cuba and Venezuela.”

As the world sounds the alarm, raises red flags, and sends a warning on possible paramilitary atrocities in the Sudanese city of El-Obeid, a local bishop reiterated the call for peace, amidst increasing drone strikes, artillery shelling, and ground attacks.

Representatives from the World Council of Churches (WCC) attended the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) Annual Gathering, which is convening from 6-10 July in Toronto, Canada, under the theme “The Table of Christ: One Gospel, Many People.”
